Welcome back to our Intermediate Japanese Course! Today, we’ll focus on three commonly used words in Japanese: 「っぽい」「みたい」「らしい」.

🔹 1. 「っぽい」 – “-ish” / “Seems like” (Subjective Impression)

✅ 子どもっぽい (*Childish*) → "He/she acts like a child."

✅ このスープは水っぽい。 (*This soup is watery.*)

🔹 2. 「みたい」 – “Looks like” / “Seems like” (Casual Observation)

✅ 彼は先生みたいだね。 (*He looks like a teacher.*)

✅ 雨が降るみたい。 (*It looks like it’s going to rain.*)

🔹 3. 「らしい」 – “I heard that” / “It is said that” / “Typical of”

✅ 彼は明日引っ越すらしい。 (*I heard that he is moving tomorrow.*)

✅ 春らしい天気ですね！ (*It’s such spring-like weather!*)

🔹 4. Comparing 「っぽい」「みたい」「らしい」

っぽい	Has the characteristics of	彼は子どもっぽい (He acts childish)	Casual, sometimes negative

🔹 5. Conversation Examples

Example 1: Talking about a friend

🧑 A: 田中さんって、おもしろいね！ (*Tanaka-san is interesting!*)

👩 B: うん、子どもっぽいところがあるよね。 (*Yeah, he has some childish traits.*)

Example 2: Talking about the weather

🧑 A: 明日、雨が降るみたいだよ。 (*It looks like it’s going to rain tomorrow.*)

👩 B: そうなんだ！でも、今日は春らしい天気だね！ (*Oh really? But today’s weather feels like spring!*)
