In English, word order and conjunctions are key to understanding. But in Japanese, things work a bit differently.

英語では、「言葉の順番」や「接続詞」がとても大事です。でも、日本語では、少し違うルールがあります。

For example:
たとえば：

• ✅ わたしは えきに いきたいです。
• 🤯 いきたい　わたし　えき。

Even with this jumbled word order, most Japanese people would still understand what you're trying to say.
にほんじん は、こんなふうに ばらばら な ことば でも、けっこう わかって くれるんです。

🧩 Japanese Listeners Fill in the Gaps

Japanese people are trained from childhood to read between the lines. They can often guess what someone means even if the sentence is incomplete.

にほんじん は こどものころ から、「ことば を すこししか つかわなくても、なに を いいたい か を よみとる」トレーニング を しています。

Particles like 「は」「を」「に」 help, but even when missing, the message often gets through.
「は」「を」「に」などの助詞（じょし）があると、よりはっきり しますが、なくても けっこう つうじます。

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Perfect Japanese Isn’t Expected

Many learners feel pressure to speak correctly, especially with grammar and conjunctions. But that pressure isn’t necessary.

たくさん の にほんご がくしゅうしゃ は、「まちがえたら どうしよう」「ぶんぽう が あってる かな？」と しんぱい します。でも、それは ひつよう ない プレッシャー です。

What Japanese people truly care about is this:
「話そうとしてくれている」その気持ちだけで、「助けてあげたいな」と思う日本人が本当に多いんです。

Even if you mix up grammar or forget conjunctions, your heart still comes through. And that’s what matters most.
まちがえても、けっこう。ぶんが みじかくても、けっこう。たいせつ なのは、「つたえたい」 という きもち。

📚 A Real Story from Kyoto

Not long ago, I went on a walk in Kyoto with a bilingual friend and a Japanese learner from overseas.

すこし まえ、バイリンガル の しりあい と、にほんご を まなぶ がいこく の かた と、きょうと を さんさく しました。

This learner was serious and thoughtful. Before speaking, they paused—trying to organize the sentence in their head.

その かた は、まじめ で すごく しんけん。はなす とき は、まず あたま の なか で ぶん を くみたてて いました。

Sometimes, conjunctions didn’t quite fit. It seemed grammar was slowing them down. So I tried something new: I started speaking with just key words.

ときどき、せつぞくし が ちがったり、ぶん が とまったり。だから、わたし は あえて、「たんご だけ」で はなして みました。

“きょうと。” “さむい？” “あめ、くるかな？”

And it worked. The conversation flowed.
そしたら、かいわ が すごく じゅんちょう に なったんです。

They told me: “Japanese is hard. There’s just too much to memorize.” Especially first-person pronouns!

その かた は いいました：「にほんご は おぼえること が おおすぎる！とくに いちにんしょう（わたし、ぼく、おれ…）がおおすぎ！」

But to be honest, “わたし” is more than enough. You don’t need to memorize ten versions to be understood.

でも ほんとう に、「わたし」 だけ で ぜんぜん つたわる んです。

That moment reminded me: Japanese doesn’t need to be perfect. It just needs to be real.

🔤 What You Actually Need to Learn First

So here’s what I recommend as the two most important foundations:

1. Learn to read hiragana and katakana.
   ひらがな と カタカナ を よめる よう に なること。
2. Start by learning common nouns and verbs.
   よく つかう 名詞（めいし）と 動詞（どうし） を まず おぼえること。

With just those, and your curiosity, you're ready to begin real conversation.
この２つ と、あなた の「しりたい・つたえたい」という きもち が あれば、もう はじめられます。

🎙️ Speaking is How You Learn Speaking

Pronunciation is probably the hardest part. I can read some English, but my accent? Probably sounds like gibberish to a native speaker 😂

「はつおん」 は、たぶん いちばん むずかしい。わたし も えいご の たんご は よめるけど、はつおん は ネイティブ に とって「なにそれ？」かも（笑）

But still, I try. And that’s what helps it stick.
でも、「それでも はなす」こと が、いちばん の れんしゅう だと おもっています。

💬 Why This Blog is Changing Direction

I’ve watched many Japanese lessons online lately. A lot of them are really complex—especially the ones made by Japanese speakers.

ここ すうかげつ、にほんご の がくしゅうどうが を たくさん みました。でも、その ほとんど が、すこし むずかしすぎる と かんじました。

That’s when I realized: maybe we need something simpler. Something more human.
だから おもったんです。もっと シンプル で、もっと「ひと と ひと」 を つなぐ ような にほんご を とどけたい。

🐢 Slow, but Steady – What’s Next

I have a family. I have a job. I can’t work full-time on this blog. But little by little, I’ll keep building.

わたし に は かぞく が いて、しごと も あります。だから、まいにち ブログ だけ に じかん を かける こと は できません。でも、すこしずつ、ぜったい に つづけて いきます。
